Where Should I Vacation in Texas?

Updated: Jun 17, 2020

Well, I have lots of places I would highly recommend, but I’m going to start with what we ended up doing this weekend.

Rockwall, Texas - beautiful and so fun!

My husband’s family lives in Rockwall and I actually lived there for a year during college.

There is so much to do! Lot’s of cute places to shop, yummy food, PLUS it's a lake town!

We stayed at Hilton Dallas/Rockwall Lakefront - It is right on Lake Ray Hubbard.

We were supposed to go to Galveston, but we decided last minute to stay closer to home. Rockwall is just 30 min East of Dallas.

I cannot gush on this hotel enough. The staff was top notch and so nice, the food was all delish, and the view cannot be beat! Make sure and get a lakefront room.

There is a bar at the pool, and yes they have servers walking around to serve you food and drinks. This is HIGH on my vacation priority list. They have a separate indoor hotel bar, and a restaurant so you really don’t have to leave.

The hotel is in a center called The Harbor. There are several restaurants, shops, and a movie theater right there within walking distance.

You can also walk out to the lake pier which is super cool! My son had to go see the lighthouse every day.

Restaurants at The Harbor I like:

-Rodeo Goat (Yummy burgers - there is also a location in Fort Worth. You ain’t living if you haven’t had their “Moontang” frozen cocktail)

-Gloria’s Mexican Restaurant

-Cold Stone Creamery

-Campisi’s

Restaurants local to Rockwall I would suggest:

-The Oar House

-Standard Service (This is actually in Heath just a few minutes from the hotel and has an outdoor play area for kids)

-Milano’s Pizza

-Joe Willy’s Burgers

My favorite Rockwall boutiques:

These are both “downtown rockwall” in a cool area with a small town vibe

-Hazel & Olive (appointment only at the moment)

-Groovy’s

We did the pool for the first few days, and then rented a pontoon boat on Sunday from Chandler’s Landing Marina. The lake is very clean! You can pull your boat up to “The Harbor” where the hotel is and get off and on.
